Privacy policy
Last updated October 15, 2026
Giver is a gift app: you describe what you’d like to receive, connect with friends, and get gift ideas for them based on what they’ve shared. This policy covers the Giver app and this website, usegiver.com. It explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have.
- Your gift profile is visible only to you and to friends whose request you accepted.
- We don’t sell your data and don’t show ads.
- When a friend asks for gift ideas for you, a summary of your gift profile is sent to our AI provider to rank suggestions.
- We earn a commission when someone buys through a shop link in the app or on this site.
- This website sets no cookies. If you join the waitlist, we keep your email only to invite you.
- You can delete your account and data at any time in the app: Profile → Settings → Delete account.
Who we are
Giver is operated by Mikas Karanauskas, Anglų g. 17, Vilnius, LT-11332, Lithuania, Lithuania (“we”, “us”). We are the data controller for the personal data described here. Contact: hello@usegiver.com.
What we collect in the app
| Data | Examples | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Account | Email address, password (stored hashed by our hosting provider), username. If you sign in with Apple or Google: the account ID, email and name they share with us. | To create and secure your account and let friends find you by username. |
| Gift profile | Birthday, age range, gender, city, interests, style, sizes, things you want or already own, restrictions and “hard nos”, and other answers you choose to give. | To show friends what you’d like and to generate gift ideas for you. Every question is optional. |
| Friends | Friend requests, accepted friends, relationship labels you set, people you block. | To control who can see your gift profile and to show friends’ birthdays in your calendar. |
| Profiles you write for others | A name, birthday and gift details you enter for someone who isn’t on Giver yet. | To suggest gifts for them. See “People who aren’t on Giver” below. |
| Calendar and reminders | Occasions you add and the reminders you choose. | To remind you before birthdays and other occasions. Notifications are scheduled on your device. |
| Wishlist and saved gifts | Gifts you save for yourself or for a friend. | To show them to you (and your wishlist to your friends). |
| Gift searches and clicks | The occasion, budget and note you enter when looking for ideas, the ideas shown, and which shop links you open. | To produce suggestions, limit AI usage per person, and understand which ideas are useful. |
| Reports | Reports you file about other users, and reports about you. | To keep Giver safe and act on abuse. |
The app doesn’t collect your location, contacts or photos, and contains no advertising or third-party analytics trackers.
Some answers, such as dietary restrictions or allergies, could reveal information about your health or beliefs. You don’t have to give them; if you do, you consent to us using them only to avoid unsuitable gifts, and you can remove them at any time in About Me.
What we collect on this website
| Data | Examples | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Waitlist | Your email address, whether you use iPhone or Android, the page you signed up on, and a one-way hash of your IP address. | To email you a beta invite. The IP hash only limits repeated signups and can’t be turned back into your address. |
| Visit statistics | Pages viewed, referring site, country and device type, counted in aggregate by Cloudflare Web Analytics. | To understand which pages are useful. It uses no cookies and doesn’t identify you or follow you across sites. |
| Server logs | IP address, browser and the page requested, kept briefly by our hosting provider. | To deliver the site and protect it from attacks. |
This website sets no cookies, so there’s no cookie banner. To leave the waitlist, email hello@usegiver.com and we’ll delete your entry. We delete the waitlist once the app is publicly available.
Who can see your information
- Anyone signed in to Giver can find your username (and profile photo, if you have one) in search, unless one of you has blocked the other.
- Friends you’ve accepted can see your gift profile, wishlist and birthday.
- Nobody else can see your gift profile, including people who’ve only sent you a request.
Service providers we share data with
We use these providers to run Giver. They process data on our behalf, under contracts that restrict them to that purpose:
- Supabase: database, sign-in, server functions and the waitlist. Data is stored in the EU (Stockholm, Sweden).
- Google (Gemini API): the AI that ranks gift ideas. When a friend requests ideas for you, a summary of your gift profile and their request is sent to Google to generate the suggestions.
- Cloudflare: hosts this website and counts visits without cookies.
- Apple and Google: only if you choose to sign in with them.
When you open a shop link (for example Amazon, Etsy or Target), you leave Giver and the shop’s own privacy policy applies. The shop, and the affiliate network that tracks the referral, can tell that you came from Giver so that we can earn a commission. We don’t receive details of what you buy.
Giver is run from Lithuania, and some of our providers are based in the United States and other countries. Where personal data is transferred between countries, it is protected by the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses or an equivalent safeguard.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety of our users.
Our legal bases (GDPR)
Because Giver is operated from the European Union, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) applies to the data we process, wherever you live.
- Contract: running your account and the features you use.
- Consent: optional profile answers, including any sensitive ones, notifications, and joining the waitlist. You can withdraw consent at any time by removing the answer, turning notifications off or asking us to remove you from the waitlist.
- Legitimate interests: keeping Giver secure, preventing abuse, handling reports, and understanding which features, pages and suggestions are useful.
People who aren’t on Giver
A user can write a gift profile for someone who isn’t on Giver yet. Only the person who wrote it can see it. They can send an invite link, and if you accept it, the profile becomes part of your own account and your own answers take priority. If you think someone has written a profile about you and you want it removed, email us at hello@usegiver.com.
How long we keep data
We keep your data for as long as you have an account. When you delete your account, we delete your profile, friends, wishlist, calendar, gift searches and clicks right away, along with other people’s labels, saved gifts and birthday entries for you. Deleted data may remain in encrypted backups for up to 7 days before it is overwritten. Reports you filed are kept to protect other users, without the link to your account.
Your rights
You have the right to access, correct, delete or export your data, to restrict or object to our processing of it, and to withdraw consent. Most of this you can do directly in the app (About Me, Settings → Delete account). For anything else, email hello@usegiver.com; we’ll reply within one month. You can also complain to our data protection authority, the State Data Protection Inspectorate of Lithuania, or, if you live in the EU, to the one in your own country.
If you live in the United States
We don’t sell your personal information, and we don’t share it for targeted advertising, as those terms are defined in US state privacy laws such as California’s (CCPA/CPRA). Sensitive answers, such as allergies or dietary needs, are used only to avoid unsuitable gifts. Wherever you live in the US, you can ask us to access, correct or delete your data, or for a copy of it, by using the app or emailing hello@usegiver.com. We won’t treat you differently for using these rights.
Children
Giver is for people aged 16 and over. We don’t knowingly collect data from anyone younger. If you believe a child is using Giver, report the account in the app or email us, and we will delete it.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit, and access is restricted by database rules so that people can only read what they’re allowed to see. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will tell you about a breach where the law requires it.
Changes
If we make material changes to this policy, we’ll let you know in the app before they take effect. The date at the top shows the latest version.
